West London building sites get enforcement notices
A recent
Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inspection of 47 construction site across west London has resulted in 21 being warned of bad safety practice.
Building sites in Kensington and Chelsea, Hammersmith and Fulham, Westminster and Hillingdon were visited as part of the HSE's Shattered Lives campaign which focuses on slips, trips and falls in the workplace.
The enforcement notices, which either require a site to stop work or warn them that improvements are necessary, were served after it was found that workers were not meeting
health and safety requirements for working at height, having a good site order and removing asbestos.
Barry Mullen, HSE principal inspector for construction in north-west London, said: "HSE does not tolerate poor safety standards on construction sites, and where lives are being put at risk, we will take the necessary action to protect workers, including closing sites and undertaking prosecutions."
Recent HSE inspections taking place at construction sites across the south of London resulted in 25 per cent of workplaces receiving enforcement notices.
