Vineyard owner dies due to health and safety failures
Health and safety failures have led to the death of a vineyard owner in Cornwall.
Following an investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) into the incident, Gregory Distribution has been fined £200,000 and ordered to pay £16,993 worth of costs.
George Musgrave - who owned the Polmassick Vineyard at St Ewe - was helping to unload a delivery lorry when the load fell on to him, causing injuries to his head and chest that were fatal.
HSE inspector Simon Jones stated that the accident highlights the potential health and safety dangers of unloading vehicles from a tail lift.
"Where employers use the services of agency staff they should ensure that those agency staff are aware of the systems of work in place," he said.
A Staffordshire company has also been fined for health and safety failures this week.
Klarius UK was ordered to pay £8,000 after an employee fractured his back in a fall from a scaffold.
