Tyre store demolished following serious blaze
A major blaze at a West Yorkshire tyre store has highlighted the importance of carrying out a
fire risk assessment at all commercial properties.
The Tyre Station building at Hollins Hill in Baildon is being demolished following the fire, which burned through 7,000 tyres stored on the premises.
Crews from across the county were called to the incident on Sunday February 5th.
Lee Miller, Shipley watch commander, told the Bradford Telegraph and Argus that the building had suffered a "serious" fire which had been difficult to put out.
"The difficulty for us was that to put out the fire, we had to get in among it but the lack of the building's structural stability was not allowing us to get in," he explained.
The presence of gas cylinders in the building was an added complication, Mr Miller added.
A fire risk assessment must be conducted on all commercial properties in England and Wales, under the terms of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
