Three men fined for health and safety failings
Three men have been fined a total of £5,000 after
health and safety failures led to a worker falling through the roof of a barn.
John Long, Andrew Oliver and Adrian Evens pleaded guilty to breaking
health and safety regulations at the court case.
David Pass suffered serious injuries after the incident, including becoming partially blind in one eye.
He was also in a coma for several days after the accident, which happened on Fairy Lane in Sale in summer 2007.
Ian Betley, a construction inspector for the Health and Safety Executive in Greater Manchester, stated that Mr Pass could have died from his injuries.
He said: "Workers at the site were expected to balance dangerously on the steel structure, while they knocked through bolts on fragile sheets. Clearly this was very dangerous."
Welsh firm Encore Engineering was recently fined £8,000 after health and safety failings led to a worker losing four fingers after an accident while working at a machine.
