Small businesses call for more support
As
health and safety consultants have often pointed out, many small businesses are being held back by crippling taxes and over-regulation.
A new survey carried out by BT has found that many bosses would like more support for smaller firms through the creation of favourable conditions.
Across the 1,600 companies polled by the telecoms giant, top of the wish list was a simplification of regulations, with lower business-related taxes coming a close second.
"Our report demonstrates that there are many areas of concern to small businesses and it is critical that we provide more support and help these companies to thrive and grow," commented Bill Murphy, managing director of BT Business.
Mr Murphy emphasised the fact that the world of British business is changing, with hundreds of thousands of new start-ups every year.
Released to coincide with the start of Small Business Week, BT's report showed that just one in 12 small firms thought the government was doing enough to help them.
Today has seen the UK's enterprise minister meet with small business owners in London to gauge their opinions on the implementation of a new enterprise framework by the government, intended to boost the growth of such businesses.
