Scaffolding firm fined for health and safety failures
A scaffolding company from Bridlington has been fined £3,500 and ordered to pay £3,000 in costs after
health and safety failures led to a worker falling several metres.
Stephen Martin was working on a property on St Aiden Road in Bridlington in April 2009 for Advanced Scaffolding when he fell.
As a result of the incident, Mr Martin suffered head injuries, as well as fracturing ribs and small bones in his back.
Health and Safety Executive inspector Geoff Clark said he could easily have been killed in the accident.
"The scaffolding was poorly planned and poorly constructed and Advanced Scaffolding clearly failed to install a structure that was fit for purpose in this regard," he added.
This is the latest incident in which a firm has been fined after health and safety failures led to a worker suffering serious injuries following a fall.
After an unnamed member of staff dropped more than six metres to the ground and broke his pelvis, The Cedars Steeplejack was fined more than £6,500.
