Property developer fined for health and safety failures
A property developer from Bradford has been fined £10,000 and ordered to pay the same amount in costs after
health and safety failures were discovered at a site in Hull.
HQ Leisure was found to be using unsafe ladders to access the upper floors of the housing conversion.
Other problems discovered by the
Health and Safety Executive (HSE) included inadequate washing facilities and no toilets being provided for the workers.
HSE inspector Stephen Hargreaves said the company "blatantly disregarded"
health and safety.
"Property developers must be aware of their duties towards the
health and safety of their workers, and HSE will continue to take action where we find significant risks to workers," he commented.
The HSE recently launched its Shattered Lives campaign, which aims to educate employers of the risks of slips, trips and falls in the workplace.
According to HSE figures, more than 10,000 workers were injured as a result of a slip or a fall in 2008/09.
