Plastics firm fined after health and safety failures
A plastics firm has been fined £15,000 after
health and safety failures led to a worker losing two fingers in a machinery accident.
Roydon Granulation Ltd was prosecuted by the
Health and Safety Executive (HSE) after the incident, which happened when an employee was trying to fix a high-speed fan.
The HSE's investigation into the accident found that the company's
health and safety guidelines for repairing machinery were inadequate.
Serious injuries to four fingers were suffered by the employee, who had to have two of them amputated.
HSE inspector Richard Clarke said a failure to follow basic
health and safety procedures had led to the incident occurring.
He added: "Factories must treat the safety of their workers as a top priority to prevent serious injuries or even deaths in the future."
Last month, Bread Factory Limited was fined £3,500 after Thambirasaiyah Roy lost a finger as a result of an accident with a mixing machine.
