Officer issues fire safety warning to property managers
Property owners and managers have no option but to conduct the necessary fire risk assessments in buildings used by members of the public, one leading officer has stated.
Speaking to the Blackpool Evening Gazette, Richard Stott, technical fire safety manager with Lancashire Fire Station, said public safety is "paramount" at all times and there can be no excuses for failing to meet obligations.
He stated: "Our role is about balancing the needs of businesses and encouraging owners and managers to keep the fire systems up to scratch and safe. Some people don't see it as a legitimate business expense.
"Where people do not comply with notices and orders, we will prosecute. And we will investigate where fires have occurred and take action where necessary."
Mr Stott said the message was clear that property managers have no option but to make sure their
premises are "up to scratch".
Last month, Sam Webb told the Architect's Journal that many high rise flats are a fire accident "waiting to happen".
