More SMEs in the UK 'must report crimes'
Smaller firms are being encouraged to get their business insurance in check and make sure they report all crimes committed against them.
The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has launched a campaign intended to encourage such firms to get in touch with the police when an incident occurs.
According to the organisation, the Every Crime, Every Time 12-month initiative will "fill a gap" which the government is currently failing to fill, emphasising that crime is a "continuing concern" for small firms.
FSB representatives noted that national surveys do not take commercial crime into account, with many small organisations failing to report incidents because of a lack of response from the police.
They pointed out that many smaller companies are victims of "low-level crime", such as graffiti and vandalism, but stressed that this could leave them feeling intimidated and not "particularly secure in the environment they're in".
Aimed at addressing local issues and patterns of crime that directly affect small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the Every Crime, Every Time campaign was launched last month.
