Landlords warned about cutting corners with gas
Property owners and landlords thinking about saving money by cutting corners when it comes to gas installation have been warned by the
Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to think of the consequences after an Essex man was fined £20,000.
Adrian Ellis, a former landlord, was found guilty of breaching five gas safety regulations at Colchester magistrates court after carrying out work on a gas boiler without being trained to do so.
Mr Ellis also failed to maintain another boiler, did not make safety checks and neglected giving a safety check copy to a tenant.
He was fined £11,300 and ordered to pay legal fees of £8,700 within 56 days or face arrest.
Matthew Tackling, inspector for the HSE, said: "The HSE will not hesitate to prosecute landlords who fail to take their responsibilities for safety to their tenants seriously and to follow up on those who fail to co-operate with any investigation or fail to appear in court."
The administrative manager of a property owner Sandeep Rajput was recently fined a total £2,948 after two of his tenants complained of symptoms associated with carbon monoxide poisoning.
