HSE finds problems at motor vehicle repair bodyshops
An investigation by the
Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has found problems with health and safety at motor vehicle repair bodyshops around the country.
According to a newly-released report by the HSE, almost one out of every five bodyshop managers are not aware of their booth clearance times.
This can cause health and safety problems, because the invisible spray mist that lingers in the air may make workers more vulnerable to breathing in isocyanates.
Louise Rice from HSE stated that while some of the results of the study were encouraging, it is "worrying" that health and safety does not seem to be important for some motor vehicle repair bodyshops.
"Occupational asthma destroys careers and lives. We appreciate that sprayers work to tight deadlines and time pressures, but they should not be gambling with their health," she said.
Last year, the HSE warned that bakery workers could also be at risk of contracting asthma due to their exposure to dust from flour.
