A quarry operator has been fined after
health and safety failures led to a vehicle overturning, injuring its driver.
The employee - who asked not to be named - was hospitalised for two days following the incident, which happened during his training.
Humberside Aggregates and Excavations of Yorkshire Ltd was fined £30,000 after the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) prosecuted the firm.
When the 30-tonne vehicle overturned, it slid around 16 feet down the quarry.
HSE inspector Richard Noble stated that the health and safety precautions that were missing at the quarry could have been installed at "minimum cost".
"We are working very hard to reduce these accidents and fatalities," he said.
"HSE produces much guidance on how to avoid them, so the reasons why this accident occurred are inexcusable."
Quarry owner Tarmac Ltd of Wolverhampton was fined £10,000 last year after a 15-year-old got into Cornelly Quarry and fell, suffering fractures to his elbow and wrist.
