Corus Special Profiles was prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) after a jam in a production line at a Cleveland factory led to the man hurting his right leg.
David Harrison, who was a team leader at the factory, was struck by machinery after a breakdown in communications between him and his colleagues.
HSE inspector Bruno Porter explained that the accident could have been avoided if health and safety guidelines had been followed by the company.
Mr Porter said workers at the factory often had to clear jams from machinery.
"There was no record of a suitable and sufficient risk assessment for this activity and no recorded safe system of work in place," he commented.
This follows Tanfield Metal Spinners recently being fined £2,000 after a worker lost his finger because of health and safety failures.
