Health and safety failures led to boy's death
A company has been fined £80,000 and ordered to pay costs of £40,000 after
health and safety failures led to a boy's death.
Faulkner Gates Limited of Romsey, Hampshire pleaded guilty to breaching
health and safety laws at a private block of flats in Balcombe Road, Poole.
Jason Keet, who was nine years old when the accident happened in April 2006, died after his head was crushed by electrically powered gates outside the flats.
Health and Safety Executive inspector Stephen Hanson-Hall said there was no blame laid on Jason for the accident, which he said would not have happened had the company followed
health and safety guidelines.
"Where several organisations are involved in design and construction projects, they must cooperate and communicate effectively with one another to control risks to the public," he commented.
This comes after a man was fined £450 and ordered to pay costs of £1,000 after
health and safety failures led to him killing his employer by running him over in a tractor.
