Health and safety failure led to worker's fall through roof
Fines have been handed out after it was found that
health and safety failures led to a worker suffering serious head injuries when he fell through a roof.
Woodgate Sawmills Limited and Stanley John of the Longhope Welding Company were fined a total of almost £40,000 after roofing contractor Robert Stephens fell through a skylight while working on a site in Gloucestershire.
Following an investigation by the
Health and Safety Executive (HSE), Mr Stephens and Woodgate Sawmills Limited pleaded guilty to breaking
health and safety regulations.
HSE inspector Annette Walker stated that the incident ought to highlight the dangers of ignoring
health and safety guidelines when working at height.
"The sawmill remained open during all of the works and employees working below were also at risk from persons or objects falling on them. Robert's fall could easily have proved fatal," she said.
Earlier this month, Sohail Hussain, trading as Haris Signs, was fined £1,000 after
health and safety failures led to a member of staff falling from a height and fracturing his wrist.
