Health and Safety Executive joins forces with British Sugar
The
Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has announced that it is to form a partnership with British Sugar.
Director of field operations at the HSE David Ashton penned a contract with Gino De Jaegher, managing director of British Sugar UK and Ireland, in order to improve
health and safety.
Mr Ashton explained that the firm has made "considerable" efforts into health and safety performance over the last few years.
"When we launched the health and safety strategy last year, we made it clear that everyone has a role from the board room to the shop floor," he said.
It is "encouraging" to see such a major UK employer take health and safety regulations so seriously, added the HSE director.
HSE principal inspector Eddie Scoggins stated that the health and safety performance at the company has improved "beyond all recognition" in recent times.
British Sugar currently employs more than 800 people in the UK and cites health and safety as one of its core values.
