Health and Safety Executive issues construction site warning
The
Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has issued a warning to firms in the construction sector.
According to statistics, 25 children were injured in accidents on construction sites during 2008/09, with one youngster dying.
Philip White, HSE's chief inspector of construction, pointed out that construction sites are dangerous places for children unless health and safety guidelines are followed.
"Of course we want children to make the most of their summer holidays by enjoying the outdoors, but building sites are not the place to do it," he said.
Mr White added that construction site managers need to use health and safety practices in order to ensure their sites remain safe and do not allow children to get into them.
A construction firm was recently prosecuted after breaking health and safety regulations.
Ron Couch Building Contractors was fined £2,500 and ordered to pay £1,250 in court costs after being found to have carried out potentially dangerous removal of materials without consulting an
asbestos services firm.
