Health and safety event 'huge success'
A
health and safety event aimed at construction workers in the north-east has been hailed a "huge success".
Held by the
Health and Safety Executive (HSE) at Wynyard Park in Billingham last month, the meeting allowed 200 construction workers to gain tips on how to reduce fatal and serious accidents.
Scaffolders, electricians, joiners, builders and painters all took part and sharpened their
health and safety skills and awareness.
Meanwhile, a new industry awareness group - the Working Well Together North East - was also launched as part of the course.
Principle HSE inspector Rob Hurst said the volume of attendees at the sessions shows construction workers take their
health and safety responsibilities seriously.
"We were able to pass on a lot of helpful tips and advice and I am confident it will contribute to making the workplace a safer environment," he remarked.
Last month, the HSE launched a new website offering information on
health and safety for those working in the woodworking sector.
It stated an "unacceptably high" number of accidents take place in this area of work.
