Gas safety events to be held for landlords
Landords in east Staffordshire are being invited to an event to raise awareness of gas safety.
The
Health and Safety Executive, (HSE), in conjunction with the county council's housing team, is holding the event at Burton Town Hall on February 6th.
It will focus on landlords' duties including the law, checking gas installers, gas safety certificates and testing equipment.
HSE awareness officer Natalka Heath said: "Landlords and managing agents are legally responsible for the safety of their tenants and so, following a number of complaints from tenants and a higher number of domestic gas incidents being reported to HSE, we are particularly keen to encourage Burton landlords to come and find out more about this important aspect of their work."
Around 20 people in the UK are poisoned by carbon monoxide from gas appliances at home every year.
The All Party Parliamentary Gas Safety Group released recommendations this week to ensure victims of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning are correctly diagnosed.
Proposals include educating GP surgeries and pharmacies that the breath analysers they use for smoking cessation services can also be used to test for CO exposure.
