Gas fitter fined for health and safety failures
A gas fitter has been fined for
health and safety failures after carrying out work despite not being properly registered.
Michael Huggins of Bristol pleaded guilty to breaking the health and safety regulations and was fined £800 with costs of £200.
Health and Safety Executive inspector Nigel Long described the actions of the gas fitter as "dangerous" and "illegal".
"The law is there to ensure work is carried out safely to minimise any risk of death or serious injury resulting from gas leaks or explosions," he said.
Mr Long advised members of the public to ensure they check that gas fitters are on the Gas Safe Register before allowing them to carry out any work inside their home.
This is the latest prosecution of a gas fitter for breaking health and safety laws and carrying out work without being registered, after a similar case occurred in Southend earlier this year.
Anthony Grove was fined £850 and ordered to pay £500 in costs after pleading guilty to breaking health and safety regulations.
