Death linked to asbestos
An inquest has heard how a woman from Bromyard, Herefordshire, may have died as a result of being exposed to asbestos in the workplace.
The Hereford Times reports that Angela Colidcott, 57, worked for Worcestershire county council for 30 years before developing mesothelioma when she retired.
Coroner David Halpern told the inquest that Ms Coldicott died as a result of contracting metastatic malignant mesothelioma, the newspaper reports.
He said that it was difficult to determine how she had become exposed to asbestos, but noted that certain incidents which occurred while she working may have been a contributing factor.
The inquest was told that Ms Coldicott claimed to have been exposed to dust, which may have been asbestos, during building work on the council's offices.
Statistics from the Health and Safety Executive show that 2,037 people died of mesothelioma in the UK in 2005.
It claimed thousands of other workers died from other 'occupational' lung diseases and cancers.
