Continuity plan 'vital' in business
Every business should make sure they have a continuity plan in place, according to industry experts.
The Institute of Risk Management (IRM) has recommended that firms identify alternative accommodation, arrange reverse forms of communication and data access for protection in the event of a disaster.
Ian Fraser, marketing manager for IRM, said that not having such elements in place would make them "very unlikely to survive a major incident".
He added that businesses are probably becoming more preoccupied with additional risks prompted by the media , such as flooding or IT risks, than becoming more aware of the range of the potential risks they face in their particular fields of activity.
Recent research conducted by Experian Business Strategies Limited and Harris Interactive found that 77 per cent of businesses in the UK have documents in place for dealing with IT failure and 81 per cent have a plan in place for dealing with an information security breach, reports continuitycentral.com.
